Having grown up in an Israeli-Argentinian home, Nir has been influenced by rhythms and harmonies from across the world and has incorporated them into his art. Working as a Jazz pianist and songwriter /composer for the last decade, Nir has been able to experience the music scene from many angles including playing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, working with the Music Department at Saturday Night Live!, and self-producing music for film and web-shorts.
Nir received his music education at the Lagond Music School and at Hunter College under artists such as Rusty Cloud, Bill O'Connell, Harvie S., Charlie Lagond, Ryan Keberle, and other music innovators. Throughout, Nir has been lucky to play with Jazz greats such as Omar Hakim, David Murray, Gary Smulyan, Greg Gisbert, Carl Allen, Joel Frahm, Miguel Xenon, Grammy nominee Roseanna Vitro, Emmy winner D.D. Jackson, and Grammy winner John Benitez. Nir graduated salutatorian from the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Hunter with a B.A in Music and Political Science.
Working at Saturday Night Live!, Nir provided support for Lenny Pickett and the SNL Band. There, he had the opportunity to assist great artists such as Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Sia, Paul Simon, Rhianna and the Zac Brown Band. Nir Kay leads his own band with original Pop/R&B tunes, and has worked sessions for artists such as Maggie Rogers. Nir has also enjoyed giving back to young musicians by teaching workshops and classes at the Lagond Music School.
